Here we are again, and it couldn’t be otherwise… and I hope this is my last stupid post related to dates and numbers…

To start fixing this blocked state I’m going to share with you my solution of the mathematical challenge #34 published by El País last week, I hope you enjoy it.

I have to thank Busto Bocanegra for her lovely handwriting and Photoshop expertise. It’s worth saying we got a special mention by the end of the article referring to her name (we used her email.)

Daito’s and Kanta’s workplace

In the evening of Sunday 25th, I went to Shinjuku where I had an appointment with Hiroko, from there we would go to Daito‘s and Kanta‘s workplace where we would meet Alvaro. There is a funny story about how close we all where connected already before the real meeting. I met Alvaro last year at Medialab by the time of Interactivos08?, before coming to Japan my friend Marcos from Medialab introduced me Kanta by email as he had already done with Rie (who further introduced me Hiroko). Before coming to Japan I had already made an appointment with Kanta and Hiroko, and I would try to get invitations for them for The Opening. The same invitation went to Alvaro. At this initial point, these people were, from my point of view, completely unrelated. Hiroko couldn’t come, but Alvaro came as Kanta did but with a friend. What happened next was fantastic. Alvaro knew Kanta! and Kanta’s friend happened to be Daito, who I missed to meet in Linz (before the opening of the new AEC), my interest was because of this. They already knew each other! Next day I met Hiroko who did already knew them as well, amazing! What we did in their fantastic workplace was trying out the myoelectric sensor system on my skin. Later we had a wonderful meal!

Portraying a sweet kogal in the Shinkansen

The story is simple as can be. She was sitting behind me, but I hadn’t seen her. I was very concentrated expecting to spot the Mount Fuji in any other moment. Suddenly I just realized this kogal was sitting behind me. I kindly asked her whether I could take some pictures, she didn’t speak a word of english but seemed very pleased. Then I proceed among some written text messages as this was the only way she could understand me.

The LEDKeepies are here to stay

LEDKeepies are my personal variation on the LEDThrowies by the Graffiti Research Lab.

The LEDKeepies came out as LEDThrowies adapted for a non-conventional wedding. In Spain we use to give little symbolic presents to the wedding attendants. When my non-conventional friends decided to marry, there appear proposals to do it in the least conventional way possible. The main feature of these adapted LEDThrowies was that they where, in principle, not going to be thrown away but kept at home, another feature was that they should be able to be turned off and to be battery replaceable.

The guest were impressed as they had never seen such thing, 5 min later all kind of games where played by little children and big children.

Several months later, while performing Animaris Modularius at Máquinas & Almas (MNCARS), we decided to make a present for Theo as a means of showing our gratefulness. I came out with the idea of attaching some LEDKeepies to the joints of one of the last legs of Animaris Modularius and picture the motion with very low light conditions and long exposure times. We were not allowed to do it unless we had previously asked permission to Theo, so the present could never be a surprise. I did so and Theo liked the idea very much!
